Susan Whitney promoted to GLN Regional Director

Please join us in congratulating Sue Whitney on her selection as the Director of the Great Lakes Region!

Sue has been serving as the Acting Regional Director for the Great Lakes Network since January, demonstrating exceptional leadership of a six-state region of 13 offices and 25 trade professionals.


Sue began her career with ITA as an Import Compliance Specialist in Washington, DC and joined the Commercial Service as a Trade Specialist at our CS Cleveland Office, quickly developing a strong reputation among clients, partners and colleagues. In 2004 Sue was appointed as the Director of the Cleveland Office, where she built a reputation as an innovative, results-oriented leader of an office that consistently exceeded expectations. Sue’s leadership across the Ohio trade eco-system included innovative public-private partnerships to the benefit of Ohio SME exporters using of our fee-based services. As the CS Cleveland Director, Sue built a national reputation, leading major events including the highly successful Discover Global Markets: U.S. Manufacturing and Beyond. The U.S. field has benefitted from Sue’s leadership across a spectrum of important national initiatives, including our state-federal strategic planning process and developing an internal knowledge sharing platform of tradecraft topics.

In addition to receiving ITA Star Awards, and the U.S. field’s “All-Star Award”, Sue has been recognized by NASBITE with the “Advancing International Trade Award”.

Throughout her career, Sue has demonstrated a commitment to ongoing professional development, passing the U.S. Customs Broker License Examination while also participating in ITA’s Leadership Development Program and Women’s Executive Leadership Training. Sue holds a degree in International Business and Economics from The Ohio State University.
Sue’s impressive leadership experience places the Great Lakes Region in strong position to build on past accomplishments while continuing to adapt, innovate and achieve even greater success. It is our pleasure to say congratulations Sue!
